WHERE ARE WE? / DONDE ESTAMOS?

Wukro is a town in northern Ethiopia. Located in the Eastern zone of the Tigray region, it is the administrative center of the district. It is situated 1,972 metres above the sea level. The town has a total population of around 37,000. It has one district hospital that officially covers the health needs of 250,000 people approximately although, in reality, this figure increases to 500,000 people. The hospital is run by a General Practitioner, Dr Mehari Desalegn, who is assisted by a second GP, a surgeon for emergency conditions, nurses and other health care professionals.

Wukro es una ciudad del norte de Etiopía localizada en la zona oriental del estado de Tigray. Está situada a 1.972 metros sobre el nivel del mar. La población de Wukro es de unas 37.000 personas. Tiene un hospital regional que, oficialmente, cubre la asistencia médica de 250.000 personas aproximadamente aunque, en realidad, la cifra alcanza los 500.000. El hospital está dirigido por un médico de familia, el Dr. Mehari Desalegn, al que asisten un segundo médico de familia, un cirujano para emergencias, enfermeras y otro personal sanitario.
